Today marks the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of horse racing's famed triple crown. Perhaps the most famous (but not the last) horse to win all three races in the same year was Secretariat in 1973. I've gone to the final leg, the Belmont Stakes, three years in a row (It's held at Belmont Park in Long Island) and I can honestly say, it's one of the more exciting sporting events I've been to. I'd love to go this year with a horse actually fighting for the triple crown, which hasn't happened since 2008 when "Big Brown" won the 1st two races, but didn't finish the Belmont. In 2004 "Smarty Jones" won the 1st two legs but finished second (by a nose!) in the Belmont. Take a look at Secretariat's 1973 races below, and happy Derby Day. Have a mint julep on The Wall Breakers!
