Rare Images of a Young Queen Elizabeth II

Rare Images of a Young Queen Elizabeth II

Being that I am an American and therefore have no official ties to the Queen I can only really comment on how I feel about her from afar. These photos show a women steeped with dignity and intelligence, and one that, especially in her younger years, was an even larger symbol than Winston Churchill. That seems incomprehensible to most Americans until you remember that there is arguably no larger symbol in the entire world than Queen Elizabeth II. Americans might not understand the subtleties of birthright and a rapidly dying royal class system, but we do have a great deal of respect for the British Royal Family because of it's tradition and history. Take a look at these wonderful images of a much younger Queen Elizabeth II, courtesy of the Life Magazine archives.

New Yorker Magazine Covers from the 1920s

New Yorker Magazine Covers from the 1920s

The Art Deco movement in the 1920s has always seemed synonymous with New York to me. The 1920s saw one of the ultimate boom periods in New York (and America's) history come to fruition. It's not a stretch by any means to suggest that it was New York which led the Art Deco movement from an architectural and visual standpoint. Great visual examples of this deco movement can be seen in the illustrated covers of the New Yorker from the time. See some of these decadent and wonderful covers below!
